If you’ve ever visited Magic Kingdom during springtime, you’ve probably spotted the cheerful little mascot, Orange Bird.

Orange Bird debuted in the early 1970s as part of a sponsorship with the Florida Citrus Commission, bringing a burst of sunshine (and citrus!) to Adventureland. Over time, he became a nostalgic fan favorite—and now, he’s a star of seasonal treats, especially during the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.

One of the most popular park snacks inspired by Orange Bird is a creamy citrus soft serve—similar to the iconic Dole Whip, but with a bright orange twist.

The problem?
Most park versions (and copycats) include dairy, artificial dyes, or common allergens.

So this version was created to capture that same creamy, dreamy citrus swirl—while being:
✔ Top 8 allergen-friendly
✔ Naturally sweetened (no refined sugars)
✔ Easy to make at home
✔ Kid-approved (and mom-approved)

To make this recipe with the iconic swirl, I’ll be using my Ninja Creami Swirl machine. I absolutely love this machine! It’s quick and easy to use and with this ice cream machine, the possibilities are endless! You can literally omit and add whatever ingredients work best for you. It’s a bit pricey but a worth while investment!

This Orange Bird swirl whips up in under five minutes so this is a great recipe for a quick dessert. Simply add all the ingredients, blend and freeze.

As an allergy mama, I know how difficult it can be to find dairy free treats. It’s so nice to have quick recipes at hand for my little allergy kiddo. He loves this orange creamsicle style soft serve and immediately asked for seconds!

Not only is it dairy free but it’s made with whole, simple ingredients and is a sweet treat you can feel good about!

Recipe:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • ¾ cup orange juice (a little more than blender version for proper spin)
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tbsp full-fat coconut milk (recommended for best texture)

To Make:

Add all of your ingredients to a blender. I have this Ninja one and it works so well each and every time! Once everything is blended well you are going to pour mixture into your Ninja creami cups to “fill line”. Place lid on top and place in freezer for 8-12 hours.

Once your mixture has frozen completely, insert into the Ninja Creami machine and select the “sorbet” or “lite ice cream” button. Spin once and add some additional orange juice and maple syrup and then add the pint back into the machine and select the “re-spin” button.

After it has reached a creamy consistency (mine only needed one re-spin) pop out of the canister and add the swirl attachment to the pint. Insert into the swirl function portion of the machine and pull down on the lever. And that’s it! Before you know it sweet, citrusy, soft serve will be flowing!

This recipe is Dairy free and oh so tasty! My family loved it! Sweet, light and refreshing! A perfect way to have a little bit of the Flower and Garden Festival right in your own home. This is sure to be a big hit as we settle into these warmer months!

Enjoy!
